THE NEIGHBOURHOOD Seochon is the old quarter most visitors walk past on their way to the palace. Narrow lanes, small bookshops, family restaurants, Inwangsan mountain at the end of the street. Thirty seconds away is Jahamun-ro 10-gil, the cafe street - Mk2, Boan and Camel among them. Also close: the changing of the guard at the palace; Tongin Market, where you buy brass tokens and fill a lunchbox from the stalls; Cheongwadae; and the National Palace and Folk Museums, both free. Bukchon is past the palace. Rent a hanbok at the gates - wearing one gets you in free. Climb Inwangsan at sunset. Eat samgyetang, market tteokbokki and the grills of Sejong Village Food Street.
Gas, water, electricity and high-speed internet are included for normal residential use. If consumption is well above normal for one occupant, the excess is billed separately within the same month and the utility bill is shown to you. The fee also covers building upkeep and waste collection.
